Do I understand correctly some hints I have seen? Ward is going to show
the first two films before opening the third?

The Extended Edition of the first two films, yes.
One ticket gets you into all three.
Unfortunately:

1) The ticket is(was) $28.
2) I'm pretty sure all the tickets have long since sold out.
3) That's about 12 hours in one sitting, and you get out about midnight.

Aloha mai Nai`a!

How silly. They should give up two theatres for the first two, at least
for a couple of weeks, three or four (?) theatres for the third. Let
people see them all, one a day.

They are doing it.

According to the ad in today's Weekly, exclusive to Ward will be the
extended version of the first two films.

"Fellowship of the Ring" for one week only, December 5-11.

"The Two Towers", four days only, December 12-15.

Oh right... I forgot entirely about that promotion, in addition to the
all-in-one-day thing. I don't know whether the theater here in Hilo
will do the 5-11 and 12-15 thing too.

This will of course drive revenues even higher for those two movies, and
proobably bump them up on the all-time top-grossing lists. Right now
on the US list The Two Towers is #7, $17M behind Jurassic Park, and The
Fellowship of the Ring is #12, $4M behind Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone, and less than $17M behind The Lion King and Forrest Gump. On the
Worldwide list, they're even stronger, with The Two Towers at #4 less than
$2M behind Star Wars Episode 1, and The Fellowship of the Ring at #7,
$6M behind Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

One week is plenty of time for Fellowship Of The Ring to pick up at _least_
enough to pass a Harry Potter movie on each list, and possibly even enough
to leapfrog The Lion King and Forrest Gump. 4 days might be a little short
for The Two Towers to pass Jurassic Park, but it should definitely pull
ahead of Star Wars Episode 1.

As the folks in NZ were saying, "Peter Jackson for PM!" ;)

"They" don't have that choice - this was something the studios came up
with. :)
